Former World Wrestling Entertainment star Gertrude “Luna” Vachon died Friday morning in Florida at age 48.

The cause of death has not been determined.

“World Wrestling Entertainment has been made aware of the passing of Gertrude (Luna) Vachon. WWE extends its deepest condolences to the Vachon family,” WWE said in a statement.

“Ms. Vachon was under contract with WWE at various times from 1993 through 2000, and performed under the name ‘Luna’ Vachon. She last performed for WWE in early 2000.”

LANCASTER – The son of Dallas Police Chief David Brown killed a Lancaster police officer and another man during a Sunday melee that left three people dead, according to a law enforcement official.

David Brown Jr., 27, was himself shot and killed by officers, according to the official.

A law enforcement source who is familiar with the case and who asked that he not be identified said Brown had been behaving erratically at the apartment complex where the shootings occurred, in the 900 block of River Bend Drive near West Pleasant Run Road in southern Dallas County.

Wearing boxers, sunglasses and no shoes, Brown apparently killed a man who had just pulled into the complex in his car with his wife and children.

A short time later, he shot and killed Craig Shaw, a five-year veteran of the Lancaster police force who was the first officer called to the scene.

“This community has lost a good officer, a very good officer. We are heartbroken,” Lancaster Police Chief Keith Humphrey said.

Shaw, 37, a father of two, was the first Lancaster officer fatally shot in the line of duty.

The other man who was killed was 23-year-old Jeremy Jontae McMillian, according to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office.

The law enforcement official who has knowledge of the case said that about 5:40 p.m., a car driven by McMillian pulled into a parking lot at the complex.

McMillian, a family man with two jobs and no criminal history, was accompanied by his wife, an infant and another small child. They were headed to his sister’s house for Father’s Day dinner.

The Chicago Blackhawks parade for 2010 will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 11.

According to a release from the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication, the celebratory ticker-tape parade and rally for the Stanley Cup champions will start at the intersection of Wacker Drive and Washington Street. The parade will then proceed east on Washington St. to Michigan Ave., before heading north on Michigan to Wacker Drive.

The rally will take place approximately 11:30 a.m. at Wacker and Michigan.

Additional details will be announced by city officials Thursday.

It’ll be a very busy weekend for Chicago fans as the Crosstown Classic opens Friday at Wrigley Field. The White Sox and Cubs will start their three-game series Friday with a 1:20 p.m. local start time, so you can imagine many fans will rejoice in the parade before taking in some baseball.

Thousands of fans partied on the streets of Chicago after the 4-3 overtime victory on Wednesday night, with no early complaints of rowdiness reported by Chicago police.

Uncontrolled emotion, utter disbelief, wild jubilation — all common themes for Blackhawks fans after the team ended a 49-year drought. Perhaps the most amusing quote of the night came from Charles Horn, a longtime season-ticker holder who watched Chicago lose a heartbreaking Game 7 in the 1971 Finals.

“It’s like the equivalent of a girlfriend who broke up with me long ago wanting to date me again,” Horn told the Chicago Tribune. “That game in ‘71 has been like a cloud over my head.”

Vice President Joe Biden defended Israel’s handling of the raid on a Gaza aid flotilla, departing from the Obama administration’s posture of wait and see.

Biden said Israel has an “absolute right” to defend its security interests, according to a transcript Politico obtained of  an interview  that was to be broadcast Wednesday evening on the Charlie Rose show on Bloomberg TV.

“It’s legitimate for Israel to say, ‘I don’t know what’s on that ship. These guys are dropping eight — 3,000 rockets on my people,” Biden said.

The flotilla of six ships, loaded with assistance for the Gaza Strip’s 1.5 million residents and aimed at breaching Israel’s blockade of the strip, was organized in part by a Turkish group that has ties to Hamas, the terrorist group that controls Gaza.

Israel’s raid before dawn Monday on the largest ship ended in bloodshed  when passengers  clashed with commandos. Nine passengers were killed, six Israeli soldiers were injured, and Israel’s relations with Turkey, which flagged the ship, were at an all-time low.  Israeli troops boarded and commandeered the five smaller ships without incident.

Biden repeated the Obama administration’s position that Israel should ease the Gaza blockade for humanitarian reasons, and should investigate the incident.

He also emphasized that  he understood Israeli concerns.

“As we put pressure, and the world put pressure on Israel to let material go into Gaza to help those people who are suffering, the ordinary Palestinians there, what happened?” he asked. “Hamas would confiscate it, put it in a warehouse, sell it.”

Biden’s  defense of Israel differed in tone from other Obama administration statements that reserved comment until an investigation uncovers the facts.

Some pro-Israel groups had said they have appreciated the Obama administration’s efforts to protect Israel from condemnation in international fora, but were also seeking a specific defense of Israel’s actions of the kind Biden delivered.

President Obama’s stand-back posture was reflected in a short statement issued by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives: “I regret the loss of life and look forward to learning the facts from a credible and transparent investigation. This event underscores the urgent need for negotiations designed to achieve an enduring and comprehensive regional peace.”

In remarks Wednesday, however, Pelosi refused to codemn Israel’s blockade, and reaffirmed the “close friendship” with Israel.

“We all — many of us here — are striving for a two-state solution,” she told bloggers in a call reported by The Huffington Post. “But it has to be a solution where there is security for both sides. And hopefully President Obama will be able to use his good offices to achieve such a goal that has been bipartisan in support in Congress. But again, I believe that the specialness of our relationship with Israel has as much to do with our own national security as it does with theirs.”

Pelosi’s deputy, House Majority Leader Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), defended Israel in his statement and said the administration and Congress would protect Israel from condemnation by the U.N. Security Council.

Republican leaders also defended Israel. “The United States stands with Jerusalem in its effort to ensure the safety and security of its citizenry,” said Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the minority whip in the House. “We can’t forget why the blockade exists in the first place: to deny Hamas the weaponry and raw materials it needs to continue its rocket attacks in Israel, killing innocent people.”

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee welcomed the statements from Biden, Hoyer and Cantor.

“Vice President Joe Biden, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and GOP Whip Eric Cantor have it right,” AIPAC spokesman Josh Block said in a statement.  ”The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with Israel and simply will not allow Israel to be isolated and falsely accused.”

Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken, who has been part of the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, has learned that Joran van der Sloot is now a suspect in a new murder, that of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. The prosecutor told CBS News that the allegation was a remarkable development and says that he is personally shocked by it.

Early Wednesday morning, Stephany Flores Ramirez was found dead, Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reports, in a hotel room registered under van der Sloot’s name. According to police reports, Ramirez had been brutally stabbed and was found wrapped in a blanket in a pool of blood.

Chief of detectives Col. Miguel Canlla says that Stephany was murdered on Sunday, and the girl’s father, Ricardo Flores, says van der Sloot appears with his daughter in video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday.

Aruban Prosecutor Peter Blanken said that an Interpol international arrest warrant has been issued for van der Sloot, who may, according to some reports, be on the run from police. The Dutch Foreign Affairs Department in the Netherlands has notified their people in Chile to be aware that Joran may be in Chile.

Five years ago, in May 2005, Alabama high school student Natalee Holloway disappeared during a senior class trip to Aruba. She was last seen leaving a bar with Joran van der Sloot. Van der Sloot has been detained several times, but never charged.

According to Blanken, he is examining the new details but does not expect it to affect the Holloway case or provide new evidence. He says that they will be contacting the Peruvian authorities later today to see if they can offer assistance.

Steven Hill is an until now largely unknown 34-year-old porn star who according to ABC 7 News in Los Angeles, killed one person and stabbed two others with a “Samurai-type sword,” and is on the loose.

It happened at the Havenhurst Airport Business Park, in Van Nuys, in the offices of a company called Ultima DVD, which is in the video distribution business but “there is filming going on their as well” according to ABC News in LA. Here’s the video:

Steven Hill was reportedly about to be fired for “inappropriate conduct” which is saying something considering the line of work he was in. The ABC 7 News’ Carlos Granda obtained video from a surveillance camera that showed Hill getting out of a car and carrying what looked like the reported sword.

Steven Hill reportedly lived and worked in the office park, which one witness said she didn’t event know was legal to do.

According to The Huffington Post, the incident started at a small “social gathering” late Tuesday at Ultima DVD; Hill had been told to leave the studio by Wednesday.

Los Angeles police Detective Joel Price said Hill just “went off and and stabbed people that probably had absolutely nothing to do with him being let go.”

Steven Hill is now the focus of a manhunt around the L.A. Basin area.

LOS ANGELES — Jeff Weaver ran into former teammate Jose Lima at Dodger Stadium on Friday — just two nights ago — when Lima was making one of his regular appearances waving to fans, taking in a game.

The two had pitched together for the Tigers in 2002, a few years after “Lima Time” became a league-wide spectacle, and were again teammates with the Dodgers in 2004. Lima asked Weaver about his infant son and they exchanged a hug. Later on, Lima was shown on the main screen and received a standing ovation.

“Every time he’s been here at games, we’ve always talked to each other,” Weaver said. “Just kind of takes you a second to figure out how quick things can change, especially at his age.”

Sunday morning, Weaver and the rest of the Dodgers learned as they arrived at Dodger Stadium that Lima had died of a heart attack Sunday morning at his Los Angeles-area home. He was 37.

“It’s a hard day,” Weaver said. “He was full of energy, loved life. It was definitely Lima Time, you know? He was a lot of fun to be around. Infectious, entertaining.”

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Jose Lima,” Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said. “Though he was taken from us way too soon, he truly lived his life to the fullest and his personality was simply unforgettable.”

The Dodgers and Tigers, both former teams of Lima’s, observed a moment of silence shortly before first pitch Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.

Lima’s son, Joel, a right-handed pitcher like his father, is in his third Minor League season with the Dodgers. The 20-year-old pitched in the Dominican summer League each of the past two seasons, going a combined 4-3 with a 2.71 ERA in 39 games, two of which were starts. He struck out 57 and walked just 14.

The best of Jose Lima’s 13 seasons in the big leagues came in 1999 as a member of the Astros when he went 21-10 with a 3.58 ERA.

For the Dodgers in 2004, Lima went 13-5 with a 4.07 ERA, leading the team to its first division title since 1995. Lima came to Spring Training that season as a non-roster invitee, and finished it by throwing a complete game, five-hit shutout in Game 3 of the National League Division Series — the team’s first postseason victory since winning the World Series in 1988.

A musician as well as a ballplayer, Lima’s band performed at the annual Dodgers’ Viva Los Dodgers celebration that season. Catcher Brad Ausmus, who was traded with Lima from the Tigers to the Astros in 1996, remembered hearing Lima’s music in the clubhouse.

“High energy, always in a good mood, loved to sing,” said Ausmus’, Lima’s teammate in Detroit in 1996 through 1998, and in Houston in 2001. “We had to listen to his demo tape all the time in the locker room. Now it’s a fond memory. Back then, it was annoying.”

Lima this month had joined the Dodger Alumni Association and was preparing to open a youth baseball academy in Los Angeles this summer. He was also interested to perform at a Viva Los Dodgers event again this season.

“Last thing I did with him was golf in 2004. It was in Arizona on an off-day, he was willing to teach you anything,” Dodgers clubhouse manager Mitch Poole said. “It’s just shocking. I talked to him for a while [on Friday], he was actually coaching at a high school. He’s helping out a phenom at a high school in Pasadena. He was over there, he’s helping him throw a changeup.”

Manny Ramirez, who was born in the Dominican Republic like Lima, would see Lima at home during offseasons.

“I saw him, I said hi to him [on Friday],” said Ramirez, who has rarely spoken to media this season. “In the Dominican he would stop by the house and say hi to my dad all the time.”

Lima, known for his eccentric antics on the mound and emotional outbursts, was just as intense a person off the field, according to Ausmus. Manager Joe Torre, who was informed by a reporter of Lima’s passing, said how sad he was, and talked about the league’s perception of a pitcher he said he knew only casually.

“You don’t know if he had confidence in himself or if he was trying to convince himself and everybody else that he did,” Torre said. “He was a showman, hot dog, but he’d win games.”

Ausmus saw Lima a little differently.

“Playing with him you come to realize that the energy you see on the mound isn’t a false persona, that’s Jose Lima,” said Ausmus, who also played with Darryl Kile, Andujar Cedeno and Ken Caminiti, all ballplayers who died at an early age. “He acts like that all the time, he’s always happy-go-lucky, jumping around, joking, laughing. So that’s who he is. There’s nothing fake about him in that sense.

“There are times when opposing teams or players would get upset with the way he carries himself, but that was his energy. Even on days he wasn’t pitching he was like that. If it’s honest emotion, I don’t think anybody would really have a problem with it. But you have to get to know him to know that’s how he is.”

The fighting broke out after troops from Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police surrounded a house in Sanzipora village near Handwara town, 120 km from here.

“The cordon was laid following specific information about the presence of heavily-armed militants inside the house,” a police officer said.

“When the militants were asked to surrender, they started indiscriminate firing at the security men. The house had been converted into a fortified bunker,” he added.

“Two militants were killed. Their identity is being established. Searches are on in the village,” the officer said.

Last week, two separatist guerrillas were killed in another gun battle in Shahnagri village in the same district while seven guerrillas belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Ex-kindergarten teacher Tonya Craft was found not guilty today of 22 counts of child molestation. The Tonya Craft verdict was announced at about 5:30 today.

The jury read the not guilty verdict to all 22 accounts, including molestation, sexual battery, and aggravated molestation.

The Tonya Craft verdict may have gotten Craft out of going to prison, but Craft’s life will never be the same. Since she was arrested for molestation, Craft has lost her job and her house.

The Tonya Craft trial has been in progress for a little under two months. It only took the jury one day to deliberate, and they came back today with a not guilty verdict.

Craft was being accused of molestation by three different girls that went to Craft’s school.

“I had no doubt in my mind that Tonya would be found not guilty,” said Keri Mann, a resident of nearby Chattanooga, TN. “We have been praying that God would let this be over soon and let her go home to her family. She has been through so much, and now she can finally have her peace, and her truth.”

If Craft had been convicted, she would have faced up to 400 years in prison.

Malik Sealy (February 1, 1970 – May 20, 2000) was a professional American basketball player who was active from 1992 until his death in 2000. He was Kevin Garnett’s most admired player and also his close friend.

Malik Sealy was first seen as a college varsity player for St. John’s College. In that college, Malik caught the eye of the young ‘Kid’, Kevin Garnett. Kevin Garnett also had the same team number as Malik, 21. At the year 1999, they became team mates under the team of the Timberwolves.

During their reign in the NBA arena, Sealy and Garnett were inseparable due to their bond together as close friends, but at the date of May 19, 2000, Sealy went with KG to a party to celebrate Garnett’s 24 birthday.
As Sealy went home at the morning of May 20, 2000, he had a car collision which caused his death.

Now, as Kevin Garnett celebrates his 34 birthday, he remembers the death of his team mate, and close friend, Malik Sealy.
